Dear Competitor,
2008
TOYOTA
RUST DE WINTER JAMBOREE
Thank
you for your entry to the Jamboree. We highly value your
participation as we strive to improve the event to the benefit of us
all.
The
ATV Organisation has, after intensive discussions as well as
pressure from our sponsors, decided to change the timing of this
event from the traditional long weekend in September to the summer
season, and we are obviously considering possibilities around public
holidays.
This
is a major decision for our Club with serious financial
implications. However, an official date will be confirmed and this
information will be conveyed to you at our earliest convenience. We
trust you will share our views in this change and will support our
goals towards a better event.
Several
reasons have been taken into consideration for this change.
1.
The Jamboree is a weekend for
families with activities for adults as well as kids who are able to
run ‘wild’ and safely in the sun.
2.
The public holiday in September is
on a Wednesday this year. A normal weekend is too short for all our
usual activities and this will have a negative effect on attendance
and participation of the event.
3.
We may run into a shortage of
marshals considering the number of officials required for the event,
as not everyone is in a position to take extra days leave for its
duration.
4.
The bushveld and surroundings are
in its worst possible condition, being at the end of the winter
season. Fires destroyed large areas, while roads are unbearably
dusty after the long period without rain.
5.
We have a serious shortage of water
and camping areas can not be irrigated before the event. Visitors
erect camp sites in dust and thorns, and these conditions are not
enjoyable for too many of us.
6.
During March or April we are on
another planet. The bushveld is lush, campsites are covered with
green grass and trees have leaves.
7.
The better climate should attract
considerably more participants, as well as visitors, wishing to stay
for the duration of the weekend.
8.
We need to increase camp activities
for visitors, creating a ‘carnival/festive/fun’ atmosphere and
an enjoyable weekend for all.
9.
We have to incorporate the most
important SUV market and develop a separate programme for them,
which will not damage these softer off-road vehicles on extreme 4X4
routes.
10.
Our main sponsors support these new
ideas and we plan to run a publicity campaign to attract new
visitors to the Jamboree, over and above those who wish to play in
mud and rivers.
As
you can see, we are trying to present you with a better event to be
enjoyed by everyone. Many ideas and plans have to be discussed, and
we have time to get these in place before the next Jamboree.
As
you have entered and paid your fees for the Jamboree, we will refund
your fees on request. Alternatively, we would appreciate extending
your entry and starting position until next year, irrespective of
the entry fee for this event.
Furthermore,
we have no plans to change the concept of the Jamboree We strive to
make it better, have more activities and sponsors and establish the
event as an annual holiday weekend to the extent that your kids nag
in your ears and reminding you of its happening.
That
is our vision.
With
warmest regards,
Deon Kok
